2018 BOYS AND GIRLS SCHEDULE

The Del Norte varsity wrestling team got its 2018 season off to an impressive start Saturday, as the Warriors placed second overall as a team at the Battle at the Border Tournament hosted by Del Norte High School. The Warriors tallied 159.5 team points overall, finishing behind the Grants Pass Cavemen.
On an individual front, all three Warriors who reached the finals walked away with championships in their respective weight classes. Blake Allen finished an unbeaten 4-0 and at the top of the 120-pound bracket, while Skylar Moore and Justin Goudelock also had perfect days and walked away with championship hardware in the 145 and 170 pound weight classes respectively. Moore and Goudelock were also voted as the most outstanding wrestlers, with Moore earning the Josh Lacy Memorial trophy as the most outstanding wrestler in the lower weight classes and Goudelock earning the Jesse Anderson Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding wrestler in the upper weight classes. Both awards are given in memory of former Warrior wrestlers who passed entirely too soon.
While it’s inevitably going to be the champions that garner the headlines more often than not, Del Norte’s Wyatt Schneck (138 pounds) and Tanner Stancliff (160 pounds) finished third in their respective weight classes, while David Hall (106 pounds) and Joshua Yang (113 pounds) each placed fourth overall. The Warriors now hit the road for the remainder of the month of December, beginning Saturday, December 8, when the squad splits into two teams with each traveling in opposite directions. The Warriors will take members of the team to McKinleyville to compete in the McKinleyville Invitational Tournament at McKinleyville High School, while others will make the trek to Coos Bay to compete in the Coast Classic.
The Del Norte wrestling team took a huge step in putting the rest of the Humboldt-Del Norte League on notice Saturday, capturing the team title at the McKinleyville Invitational hosted by McKinleyville High School. The Warriors were a perfect six-of-six in championship matches, while also earning two third places and two fourth places on the day. Chaz Harrison (120 pounds), Wyatt Schneck (138 pounds), Skylar Moore (145 pounds), Tanner Stancliff (152 pounds), Justin Goudelock (170 pounds) and Braydon Henderson (195 pounds) each won their respective weight classes, with Schneck also being named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler. Sherrik Cron II (132 pounds) and Cruz Cerros (126 pounds) both placed third, while Brandon Davis and Mario DeSolenni both earned fourth place finishes.
“Overall, the kids wrestled really well,” Del Norte coach Clint Schaad said. “Our conditioning was better and our technique was better than last week (at the Battle of the Border hosted by Del Norte).”
